Hey there, cat parents! It's Matt from Companion Animal Veterinary Hospital. Today, I'm here to walk you through a task that might seem daunting at first: collecting a urine sample from your cat. Whether it's for a routine check-up or to diagnose a health issue, getting a urine sample can be crucial. Don't worry, though; with a beaded cat litter test kit, it's easier than you think!
Step 1: Prepare the Litter Tray
First things first, you'll need to empty your regular litter tray. Make sure to clean and dry it thoroughly using plain water and a paper towel. It's important to start with a clean slate to ensure the sample isn't contaminated.
Step 2: Set Up the Beaded Litter Kit
Next, grab your beaded cat litter test kit. These kits are specially designed to make urine collection a breeze. Empty the contents of the kit into the tray, but remember to remove the pipette and the collection tube before doing so. Then, place the tray back in its usual spot in your home.
Step 3: Wait for Your Cat to Urinate
This part requires a bit of patience. Wait for your cat to use the litter tray as they normally would. The beaded litter won't absorb the urine, making it easier to collect.
Step 4: Collect the Sample
Once your cat has done their business, tilt the tray so that the urine pools in one corner. Then, use the pipette provided in the kit to collect the urine sample. Be sure to transfer the urine into the collection tube.
Step 5: Store and Transport the Sample
It's best to bring the urine sample to us as soon as possible. If you need to store it overnight, keep it in the fridge. Remember, the sample should be brought to us within 12 hours to ensure accurate test results.
