For Benjamin, becoming a veterinarian was a way to give back some of the comfort and companionship his own dogs, Nismo and Axel, had given him. His two Australian Shepherds showed him how much animals can mean to the people who love them—and inspired him to make a difference for both.
Benjamin spent five years as a veterinary nurse at Companion Animal Veterinary Hospital before qualifying as a vet. Encouragement from the veterinarians he worked alongside helped him take that next step. He graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2025 with First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Bachelor of Veterinary Science, then returned to CAVH as a companion animal veterinarian.
He enjoys the science and problem-solving of medicine, but it is the everyday signs of recovery that make the work worthwhile: a seriously unwell patient eating again, becoming more comfortable and moving closer to going home. Benjamin wants families to feel supported through the uncertainty of an unwell pet, with honest explanations, regular updates and someone who follows through on their promises.
Having lived around Shellharbour for much of his life, Benjamin feels at home on the South Coast and values the community and camaraderie at CAVH. Outside work, he enjoys time with his wife and young family, going to the gym and gaming.
