Walnut the assistance dog

Hey there, pet lovers!

I'm Kate, one of the vets at Companion Animal Veterinary Hospital, and I want to share with you a special story about one of our furry patients, Walnut. This tale is close to my heart because it highlights how we can make vet visits a lot less scary for our four-legged friends.

Walnut's Nervous Nelly Moments

Meet Walnut, a lovely dog who used to get super stressed about coming to see us. His owner was concerned about his anxiety, so we came up with a plan to ease his worries. We prescribed some calming medication for Walnut to take before his visit, aiming to make the whole experience more relaxing for him.

Tail Wags in the Waiting Room

Thanks to the pre-visit meds, Walnut was actually wagging his tail in our reception area – a big win in my book! He was here for a dental cleaning and a much-needed nail trim. Trimming Walnut's nails while he's awake was a bit of a challenge due to his anxiety, so we planned to do it while he was under sedation.

Our Fear-Free Approach

Here at Companion Animal Veterinary Hospital, we're big on fear-free medicine. That meant starting Walnut's sedation in the waiting room, where he felt most comfortable. My nurse Callum was a huge help in making the sedation process quick and stress-free for Walnut.

A Little More Sedation, Please!

Walnut needed a bit more sedation to get fully relaxed. We always adjust our approach based on each pet's response. Once he was nicely sedated, we could easily clip his nails and get him ready for his dental procedure.

Dental Health Matters

Taking care of Walnut's teeth was crucial. My colleague Cal handled the dental scaling to remove any plaque and calculus, which is so important for preventing gum disease and tooth loss. After the scaling, we polished Walnut's teeth to keep them in tip-top shape.

A Happy, Healthy Walnut

After his procedures, Walnut woke up gently and was soon all set to go home with his family. His visit turned out to be a smooth and stress-free experience, all thanks to our commitment to fear-free practices and personalized care.

We're Here for Your Pets

At Companion Animal Veterinary Hospital, we understand that every pet is unique, just like Walnut. If your furry friend gets nervous about vet visits, let's talk about creating a fear-free plan just for them. Our goal is to make every visit as comfortable as possible – for both you and your pet.

Thanks for reading Walnut's story. We're here to make sure every pet's visit is as happy and stress-free as Walnut's!

Warmly, Kate
